As their name implies, Black Cat Zoot are a swing band with a difference, not least in that their album was produced not by a jazz great, but a modern ska hero, Dr. Ring Ding. Nor was the good Doctor content to stay behind the console, his trombone, percussion, organ, piano, and backing vocals are strewn across the set, and he even duets with singer Lisa Muller on the rip- roaring "Shake That Bone." But even a septet can use some filling out, and other local luminaries also guest on the set. The Zootsmay be German, but their lyrics are in English and their influences are mostly American, their music borrowing heavily from the jazz and swing scene. The blistering "No Swinging in Your Walking" is so lethal, you could even put it up against anything by Glen Miller and it would hold its own. "Dirty Dancing" has a more dangerous aura, just the kind of number you would hear blasting out of a Harlem club during this same period.But these Zoots mix it up too, like on "They Lie," where big band bops right into funk, or the title track and "Swinging Tune," where jazz and R&B meet at a sock hop. In contrast, the sweet, lilting "Go Home" sounds like a '50s pop hit from the likes of Connie Francis. But not all the band's influences are American, as Dr. Ring Ding's presence suggests, there are nods to Jamaica as well, although in a decidedly third wave ska revival vein. The upbeat "Post Signs" pays musical tribute to the Two Tone scene, "Alright Again" is a splendid third wave ska number, while the jazzy "Whiskey & Wine" is underpinned by a ska beat, yet sounds nothing like anything the Jamaicans recorded back in that age. So a rollicking ride this, across the years, genres and ocean. Pull on your poodle skirt or your go-go boots, either way you'll be dancing the night away to this fabulous album.hires音乐资源的曲目:
