This recording highlights young pianist Maurizio Zaccaria's interpretive ability and technical ease on selections by Jules Massenet, best known for his operas, orchestral music and songs. He did, however, compose a body of music for piano as well, featured here in its entirety. The album also contains two transcriptions derived from some of the composer's more famous melodies. The character of Massenet's music presented is mostly cantabile with some virtuoso and fast numbers which give a great variety to the series. Zaccaria's performance was captured using six Neumann and Sennheiser microphones and Prism Sound top-class equipment.
