Possessing one of music's mostdistinctive voices, Rod's musical project The Great American Songbookseries has been a recordbreaking success, selling over 19 millionalbums and becoming the biggest selling ongoing series of new musicrecordings in history. In 2006, Stewart released Still the Same, GreatRock Classics of Our Time, his first rock album in over eight years,which entered the charts at #1. He has sold out concerts across theglobe and his last 5 studio albums have topped the Billboard charts.Rod spent this summer recording the Soulbook album and criss-crossingthe country on a 20 city North American tour.

史都华在谈到新专辑时表示：“我喜欢录制这样的翻唱系列专辑，现在仍然有很多素材有待筛选和雕琢。如果《Soulbook》能够取得成功，那么
我将会把这个系列继续下去。我希望自己的专辑都能够趋于完美，因此我并不会赶时间或者是草率的对待哪个细节。”
这是史都华发行的第四张《Songbook》系列专辑，之前的三张专辑都取得了白金销量。其中发行于2005年的《Stardust: The Great American
Songbook Volume III》不仅冲上了公告牌专辑销量排行的榜首位置，而且赢得了当年格莱美的最佳传统流行专辑奖。
《Soulbook》专辑中史都华将同多位大牌艺人翻唱13首他最为喜欢的R&B歌曲，这些大牌艺人包括有史蒂夫-旺德(Stevie Wonder)，他将同史都华
合作演唱《My Cherie Amour》。其他邀请到的艺人包括有斯莫吉-罗宾森(Smokey Robinson)，玛丽-布里格(Mary Blige)以及珍妮弗-胡德森
(Jennifer Hudson)等人。

召集了称得上全明星的录音阵容。这其中包括有摩城唱片的老牌乐手鲍勃-巴比特(Bob Babbitt)，乔治-博翰恩(George Bohannen)以及雷-帕克
(Ray Parker)。另外，来自滚石(Rolling Stone)乐队的贝斯手达瑞-琼斯，Toto乐队的大卫-派奇(David Paich)以及其他录音乐手温德-沃奇特尔
