First we had Smash Hits Avril ('Complicated'), then came punk-pop Avril ('Sk8er Boi') and let’s not forget good ol’ Alanis Jnr AKA Power Ballad Avril ('I’m With You'). Wow! Surely that’s everyone catered for then? Oh wait! What about all those millions of disaffected nu metal kids out there with a spare tenner to spend?

There’s your requisite angst-ridden lyrics (“Why should I care/Cos you weren’t there when I was scared/I was so alone,” poor lamb!), tons of Linkin Park-esque guitars and handy advice for boyfriends everywhere: we need to listen, apparently. Unfortunately, that’s the last thing you want to do while this dirgesome whine-fest is playing. But, heck, all those demographics from just one album? Someone should really give her marketing team an award.
