Eiichi Chijiiwa, violin - Solo Migration (2010) [FLAC/24/44.1]
Solo migration
As a child, I was always day-dreaming, in a fantasy kingdom, I was solitary. I wanted to become a pianist, for I already envied its indepen-
dent and self-sufficiency.
As an adult, I’ve learnt to love, but also my necessity, my need to share music with other musicians. That is why today, I am very fond of
my work in an orchestra, but also sharing music in a string quartet or being part of all sorts of musical forms. But it remains a fact that
playing music alone has never stopped giving me great satisfaction but also an enormous impression of responsibility!
This program is the result of my everyday concerns. Everyone seeks his life-path and his place. Having lived in France for the past 19
years, personally I’m still searching for MY place in life, my identity as a Japanese, placed in a culture which originally is not my own.
Paris has always attracted foreigners, and it has always accepted and even welcomed “migratory” artists. A great number of composers
have come to Paris, composed in the town and shared the French culture without ever having been considered as French! For example: Mozart, Gluck,
Rossini, Chopin, Liszt. Nevertheless, their contribution to French called music, is undeniable. Many foreign musicians have settled in France and
have enhanced the repertoire of works for solo violin.
For this album, among the nine composers I’ve chosen, some have lived and worked in France, others have even decided to naturalize
French citizens. These musical encounters from different horizons show the variety of conception and style-diversity one can obtain with
one single instrument.
