DeBarge
一個來自密西根Grand Rapids的家庭成員所組成的樂團, 這個目前我們認為非常classic團體的成立過程,其實是相當漫長的...........
早在70年代中期, Elder DeBarge 的胞兄Bobby跟Tommy就與其他人組成了一個Switch團體,並獲得Motown總監Jermaine Jackson賞識,給了他們在一些合集,發表許多單曲機會。而在這個過程中, Bobby與Tommy才逐漸介紹同與他們熱愛音樂的弟妹Eldra, Mark, James, Randy, 與Bunny與他們的唱片公司簽約。
而Mark, James, Randy, Eldra (或簡稱 "El"), 與家庭小妹"Bunny便決定以家族姓氏組了DeBarge這個團。
80年代初,在公司的栽培下, DeBarge發行了他們的第一張同名專輯, 但並沒有一炮而紅。相反地, 經由他們的不斷努力, 之後的專輯All This Love才取得市場肯定(這是他們第一張獲得金唱片肯定的album),其中"I Like It" 跟 "All This Love"皆是十分成功的單曲,尤其I Like It便是他們第一首攻佔全美R&B charts第一名的歌曲。
之後的專輯In a Special Way則延續之前的銷售佳績,許多歌曲如"Be My Lady"、 "In A Special Way" (也是另一首第一名的 R&B hit)、"Time Will Reveal"、 "Stay With Me" 跟 "A Dream"都已成為R&B 歌曲中的經典..........
1985年,在與超級製作人 Diane Warren合作後所發行的Rhythm of the Night專輯,則可說是邁向他們音樂事業的頂峰。不管在商業與藝術成就上, 專輯中的"Rhythm of the Night"、 "Who's Holding Donna Now?"與 "You Wear it Well"都奠定了DeBarge在80年代節奏藍調或靈魂樂中的經典地位。
可惜的是, 之後主唱Eldra可能因理念或自身更好發展考量退團,妹"Bunny也因不可考的原因退團,結果, 基本上在86年發完了精選集後, DeBarge便形式上解散了！不同的成員也名自投身音樂不同領域(像福音或繼續待在r&b)努力…..不過不管如何,從1980到85年,雖然就只有短"五年, DeBarge已留給世人許多可以懷念的歌曲, 他們也見證了八0年代那個令人嚮往，永遠是如此朝氣澎渤的音樂年代.......
