從洛杉磯初出茅廬的黑眼豆豆合唱團，是一支深受靈魂樂、爵士樂與拉丁節奏與現場演唱精神所啟發的放克/嘻哈隊伍，
由will.i.am、apl.de.ap、Taboo 三位團員所組成，在1998年與2000年先後發行了兩張獲音樂評論網站
All Music Guide四顆星喝采的專輯「Behind The Front」與「Bridging The Gap」，他們跨越類型音樂，
並多元採擷拉丁、印地安、亞洲民族旋律的音樂地球村創作態度深獲音樂人肯定，第2張專輯[Bridging The Gap]
就吸引了難民營合唱團(The Fugees)創作主將懷克里夫金(Wyclef Jean)與DJ Premiere攜手掌舵製作大任，
葛萊美獎最佳女歌手得主梅西葛蕾(Macy Gray)、嘻哈名團De La Soul、Mos Def、Jurassic 5、
法國節奏藍調/爵士女子樂團Les Nubian也來助陣，其中與梅西葛蕾合唱的"Request Line"攀登饒舌單曲榜亞軍。
不斷在創新的黑眼豆豆合唱團，2003年樂團亮出了全新力作「Elephunk放克大象」，樂團有了新朋友—來自
洛杉磯的Stacy 'Fergie' Ferguson，Fergie原本只是單純的在現場演唱場合以樂會友，卻因大家在錄音室
磨出驚人的火花，進而獲邀加入黑眼豆豆合唱團。
2005年，黑眼豆豆秀出另一張極至玩樂大碟【Monkey Business】，專輯發行首週空降全美流行榜亞軍，
並在節奏藍調/嘻哈榜與饒舌榜中雙雙奪冠，專輯發行半年多以來，已連續推出4首強勁單曲，包括:
嘻哈/放克派對勁歌"Don't Phunk With My Heart"[熱門榜#3、流行榜#2、數位榜#1、舞曲點播榜#4]、
散發性感熱力的"Don't Lie"[熱門榜#14、流行榜#9、數位榜#5]、洋溢歡樂幽默氣息的"My Humps"[熱門榜#3、
流行榜#2、數位榜#1、鈴聲下載榜#1]、歡樂指數超高的"Pump It"[熱門榜#22、流行榜#12、數位榜#14]。
2006年的葛萊美獎中，樂團以"Don't Phunk With My Heart"再添一座最佳饒舌合唱獎，同時還分別以"Don't Lie"
以及取樣海灘男孩傑克強森(Jack Johnson)作品的"Gone Going"入圍最佳流行樂團演唱與最佳流行合唱項目。
2006年，黑眼豆豆慶祝【Monkey Business】全球銷售直逼700萬張，以及預定7月份的亞洲巡迴演唱會，
特別發行CD+DVD影音發功盤，CD中除了收錄"Don't Phunk With My Heart"、"Don't Lie"、"My Humps"、
"Pump It"等4首排行暢銷單曲外，還加收了由搖滾團blink-182成員Travis Barker操刀的混音版，
以及由Noizetrip所製作的"Dum Diddly"混音版。DVD則是蒐藏了"Don't Phunk With My Heart"、"Don't Lie"、
"My Humps"、"Pump It"、"Like That"5首歌曲的音樂錄影帶。他們已經超越了原先的嘻哈樂根源，變成了流行樂壇罕見、
