据音像世界报报道，说起Sugababes们，就要连Pete Waterman这样的资深音乐制作人也要为她们捧捧场：“这是我听过最出色的流行音乐之一，丝毫可不比Spice girls逊色。”现在就连涉世未深的小朋友也会嚷着父母带他去看Sugababes的演出。“有一次我们演出时，我看见在一群15、6岁的年轻人中间竟挤着一个才不过5岁左右的小女孩，她也来听我们的歌，哇！这感觉真是太美妙了！”Keisha甜甜地道。除了Keisha外，Sugababe另两个女孩分别是与Keisha同龄的Siobhan Donaghy还有刚过15岁生日的Mutya Beuna，别看她们甚至还没到买包烟的年龄，可是她们的单曲唱片“Overload”(超载)就创下了20万张的佳绩。在这首歌的音乐录像中Sugababes普通得就像是邻家的小妹妹，天真、娇柔、活泼。有时候，你会觉得她们亲切得就像小时候向你借半块橡皮的同桌女生。与Spice Girls、All Saints和Supersister这些超级“辣”妹不同的是，Sugababe并非从校园开始其音乐旅程，也不依靠过于矫揉造作的花边新闻，也许Sugababes从默默无闻到被人知晓，则是完全依赖她们的年轻，对音乐的出自内心的感知，就像是在“Overload”中的表现那样，她们只不过将自己的天性发挥得淋漓尽致。  
　　早在1997暑假，Keisha和Mutya闲来无事到一个朋友家参加聚会，正巧Siobhan也在那儿，出于对音乐共同的爱好，使3个女孩走到了一起，就在那个夏天，她们用录音机录制了属于自己的第一首歌，并自编自导了第一支音乐录像。“我们天生就是唱歌的料。”Keisha道：“我们的声音就像是水珠般晶莹通透，听过我们的歌的人都是这样认为的。”多亏Keisha使我觉得我有唱歌天赋，于是我们想成立一支真正的乐队，通过朋友介绍我们有了专业的经理人。"Siobhan腼腆地说道。Siobhan所说的经理人就是Ron Tom，这位仁兄也曾是All Saints的经理人，而他的目标就是想把Sugababes培养成全世界顶尖的女子乐队。而开始并不像想像中那样顺利，Sugababe的第一首单曲小样，总共花费了近6个月的时间，“Ron对我们太严格了，他总是横挑鼻子竖挑眼的，”Mutya噘着嘴嘟嚷道：“还好的是，后来总算还蛮顺利，我们一下子录了40多首小样，我们从中挑了10首最好听的歌，准备把它们放在我们的首张专辑中。”好听的歌有了，接下来的事，就是为乐队取个响亮的名字了，这可有点让3个女孩子头有点疼了，在经过一阵子互不相让的争吵后，“Sugababe”这个名字诞生了，“嘻！这是我们都喜欢吃儿童饼干的原故，当我们正发愁之际，不知谁开始吃起儿童饼干来了，于是我们都觉得“‘Sugababe’这个名字很不错，很符合我们的天性。" Keisha解释道。  
　　The Sugababes的音乐风格以R＆B、POP，其中还掺杂了美国车库摇滚，再配上Sugababes亮丽的声线，所以当Sugababes第一次闪亮登场时，连挑剔的音乐人都有点惊讶，怪不得，现在连5、6岁的小孩也会哼上几句“Overload”。不过，Sugababes最喜欢的一首是“New Year”(新年)。”我们将它演绎了3个版本，然后将它放给我们的朋友去听，他们一致认为其中一支带有R＆B风格更合适，因为它能将我们的个性完美地体现出来。”Siobhan说道。  
　　现在Sugababes的日程总是排得满满的，让组合中年龄最小的Mutya累得够呛，“幸好，Keisha她总能照顾我，我们3人就像亲姐妹一样。" Mutya乐呵呵地道。Mutya同样也是Sugababes中最讨人喜欢的一个，朋友们都爱叫她“Rose”，当然小Mutya可不会管别人如何称呼她，她最害怕的就是长大。当然，Mutya的担心是有点道理的，现在的歌迷被那些所谓的“超级组合”弄得口味越来越刁了。今天可能还是风光无限，明天就有可能是明日黄花了，不过Keisha对这可是满不在乎，“时间能证明一切，要让别人真正地喜欢我们，关键还是要有属于自己的音乐。”Keisha挺深沉地答道。而Sugababes所属的伦敦唱片公司早就为他们的掌上明珠们制订了一份长远的计划。早在1997年，Sugababes还只有13、4岁时，唱片公司就有意让她们同All Saints同台献技，Sugababes出众的表现则丝毫不让同门师姐。这也难怪Sugababes将Britney视为自己的小辈呢。
