真名:Alfred Matthew Yankovic,1959年10月23日出生于美国加州林恩伍德市.7岁时跟随传统波尔卡大师Frank Yankovic演奏手风琴(他们两人无亲属关系),在十几岁的时候,Alfred Matthew Yankovic是当时Dr.Demento表演秀的忠实粉丝.并受到类似Spike Jones,Tom Lehrer和Stan Freberg之类的音乐剧的影响. 1973年Yankovic在Demento来他们学校表演时递给Demento一张他的作品样带,后来Demento在表演秀上演奏了Yankovic 的作品"Belvedere Cruising". Yankovic在大学期间首次开始使用绰号"Weird Al".
