普洛可哈伦乐团（Procol Harum）是英国前卫摇滚团体，成立于20世纪60年代早期。以他们的冠军单曲单曲《更浅的苍白阴影》（A Whiter Shade of Pale）最广为人知。他们的音乐生涯中始终有一群忠实的支持者。
A Whiter Shade of Pale中文译为「脸色极其苍白」，普洛可哈伦合唱团（Procol Harum）的作品，此出于Chaucer 的《坎特伯里故事集》里一篇故事：磨坊主人的故事，内容大概是一位年轻美丽的磨坊主人的妻子和他们的大学生房客有染的故事。苍白阴影指的是不伦恋中的美丽女子。
这首歌龄很长，很多人一定听过这首歌，无论在广告歌、或包括乔·库克（Joe Cocker）、安妮·蓝妮克丝（Anne Lennox），甚至莎拉·布莱曼（Sarah Brighman）拔尖高音的翻唱版，都听得到；我则在1983年电影《大寒》（The Big Chill）听到这首感人至深的歌。
由「Procol Harum」乐团演唱的《脸色极其苍白》诞生于1967年，是该团推出的第一张专辑的首支主打歌，在当年最高名次拿到告示牌第五名，成功打响名号。第一次听到 A Whiter Shade of Pale，没有人不会被它深情的管风琴乐编曲与浑厚的歌声打动，我当时年纪虽小，却一直记得这部电影里的这首歌，却不晓得它的歌名。
很多年后，在一个唱片行的特价区里，我发现了《大寒》原声带的卡带，兴奋地买回家，一首一首的听，终于听到了记忆深处的「爱歌」── A Whiter Shade of Pale。过了几年，买了CD，又过几年，在纽约的跳蚤市场买下了原声带黑胶。
在20世纪60年代中期，摇滚乐结合古典乐的曲风逐渐兴起，被称之为「古典摇滚」，Procol Harum则是此风的佼佼者。该团的灵魂人物也身兼主唱、键盘的Cary Brooker特别偏好R&B歌曲，虽然该团是以摇滚乐为主，但由他诠释歌曲，在摇滚中也多带了灵魂与蓝调的浓情。
他与当时被视为英国文坛新秀的Keith Reid合作了 A Whiter Shade of Pale。Reid超越现实所冥想出的歌词，Brooker则擷取巴哈管风琴声部，所营造出令人迴荡不已的感人效果，至今仍令人传唱不已。
该团自1967年成立以来，成员历经数次替换，至1977年共出版十张专辑，排行成绩虽不曾再创 A Whiter Shade of Pale的高峰，却也始终是摇滚界的重要代表，随后成员各自单飞，直至1991年才再重聚。这张单曲黑胶，是我在巴黎的跳蚤市场发现的宝，A Whiter Shade of Pale虽是他们成团后的第一首单曲，但封面上的人却已有两位是新加入的人了，可见该团「换血」之快速了。
