"Orchestra Baobab is a vintage Senegalese musical group who, prior to this cd, last recorded in the early 80s. On the heels of the success of their 1982 album, 'Pirate's Choice', issued in the U.S. only last year, Orchestra Baobab have, for the most part, reunited to record this wonderful cd. Although this is music generally indigenous to or stemming from their various tribal cultures, it is rich with colors from other cultures as well. As a result, this album should appeal not only t those familiar with African music, but to lovers of reggae, Latin music, and American r&b, too. 乐团简介：
Orchestra Baobab是七０年代最重要的塞内加尔乐团。他们的乐风以古巴音乐为根基，融合塞内加尔不同部族的传统音乐。该团成立于1970年，当时达喀尔的Baobab俱乐部开张，他们成为该俱乐部驻唱乐团。乐团的成员有的来自Wolof族，有的来自Mandinka文化群，也有来自Togo与Cassamance地区的乐手。
他们的乐风强调自然、不费力。整个七０年代，他们称霸塞内加尔乐坛，直到Youssou N'Dour成立Etoile De Dakar乐团，Orchestra Baobab轻飘飘的乐风才被较具摇滚味、节奏较硬的乐风取代。
从1970年便已经组团至今的宝巴乐队（Orchestra Baobab）最早虽只是在达卡演唱的地方性队伍，但他们那种充满热情洋溢的歌唱方式，却让他们的声誉一直传遍到整个欧美乐界。在乐风上，宝巴乐队的风格与古巴传统的民歌演唱又其血缘之联系衔接，尤其听过Buena Vista Social Club那位可爱的老歌手Ibrahim Ferrer的演唱后，再听到宝巴乐队的演唱便会产生一种其似曾相似的感觉，因为他们在运用伦巴节奏的共通处确实是显而易见的。
宝巴乐队一名取自他们当地盛产的一种猴面包树，而大约在1940年代左右，整个西非经由西方水手与广播电台的传递而开始广泛流行演奏古巴音乐，宝巴乐队便亦是在这样的一个环境下发展出他们自己的音乐风格，不过尽管是以古巴音乐为主轴，但在不断的演变下，他们亦开始大量加入他们Wolof地域的曲目做为他们融合本地元素的素材。
