鲍勃·迪伦从大学退学后便前往纽约，他在那里的咖啡馆里演唱民谣歌曲时，引起了制作人约翰·哈蒙德的注意，并在62年首次发行唱片。他将自己的表达范围逐渐扩大到摇滚乐，后来成为和披头士一样有影响力的流行音乐方向标。他不喜欢被束之高阁，六七十年代的他贴近乡村风格，也在电影、音乐节和现场表演中展示自我，有时也会致力于社会的发展，同时他在这一时期也出了不少经典专辑。

鲍勃·迪伦（Bob Dylan），原名罗伯特·艾伦·齐默曼（Robert Allen Zimmerman），1941年5月24日出生于美国明尼苏达州，美国摇滚乐、民谣男歌手、词曲创作人、作家、演员、画家，美国艺术文学院荣誉成员。
鲍勃在高中的时候就组建了自己的乐队。1959年高中毕业后，就读于明尼苏达大学。在读大学期间，对民谣产生兴趣，开始在学校附近的民谣圈子演出，并首度以鲍勃·迪伦作艺名。1961年签约哥伦比亚唱片公司。1962年推出处女专辑名为《鲍勃·迪伦》。1963年起，琼·贝兹邀请迪伦与她一起巡回演出。
2016年，鲍勃·迪伦获得诺贝尔文学奖，成为第一位获得该奖项的作曲家。2020年3月27日在其官方社交平台发布了17分钟（16’55”）的长歌《Murder Most Foul》。直到今天，他仍然是非常有影响力非常受欢迎的艺人之一。
