When you compose more than 100 symphonies, all of them good, it's only natural that the public will find ways to identify the ones they like the most. These symphonies with nicknames are not necessarily better than those without, but they do give an excellent overview of Haydn's unsurpassed achievement as a symphonist. From the early trilogy of "Morning, Noon, and Night" Symphonies (Nos. 6-8), which Haydn composed as a sort of sequel to Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," right up to the last of them, the so-called "London" Symphony (No. 104), the history of Haydn's symphonies is the history of music in the Classical period. Marriner's performances are praiseworthy.
