在主流媒体与唱片工业联合垄断与制定模式的引导下，乐队或艺人推出新歌或单曲，往往有「主打」与「菜底歌」、也就是A-Side与B-Side之区分；长久下来，A-Side总是接受世人表扬与爱戴的对象，而B-Side则成了冷板凳，像个永远在等待上场机会的二线球员，伴随着时光流转而逐渐被世人遗忘，甚至不曾被记忆过。为了反制长久不变的「主打」政策，乐队往往相隔一段时日便会推出所谓B-Side精选或合辑，把一票几近被遗忘的歌曲拯救回来。
《The Third Eye Centre》是Belle and Sebastian继2005年《Push Barman To Open Old Wounds》之后推出的第二张合辑，选在《Write About Love》之后推出别具意义。《Write About Love》为乐队挣得了成军十馀年来最好的商业成绩，理应乘胜追击，可是Stuart Murdoch大概不这麽想，《The Third Eye Centre》表面看似一张完整专辑，却只有一首由Miaoux Miaoux溷音的跳痛新歌〈You Cover’s Blown〉，其馀18曲皆来自过去三张专辑所发行单曲的B-Side作品。
中生代贝儿迷比较熟悉的〈I'm a Cuckoo〉，收录的是澳洲电音单位The Avalanches溷音的夏日应景热带音乐版本；〈Suicide Girl〉则是上张专辑《Write About Love》的Bonus，可弥补因购买版本不同而错失的遗憾；而〈Love On The March〉虽非他们初次尝试Bossa Nova，却也洩露出乐队早有心转型爵士与森巴音乐的企图。
B-Side往往最能听见乐队的另一面，与印象中的认知略有些差异与出入，却正好是聆听《The Third Eye Centre》上最大的乐趣所在。（boyethAn）
Glaswegian indie popsters Belle and Sebastian release a new collection of rarities and collectibles titled The Third Eye Centre on August 27.
Stuart Murdoch et al have been given the full rarities treatment before: the band were profiled on 2005′s Push Barman To Open Old Wounds, which collected their early-period EPs for Jeepster, and a glut of unheard live recordings also came to light on 2008′s The BBC Sessions. New odds’n’sods collection is on the way, focusing on the band’s last decade of activity.
The Third Eye Centre collect rarities and B-sides dating between 2003′s Dear Catastrophe Waitress and 2010′s Belle And Sebastian Write About Love. The set also includes Avalanches’ exotic edit of ‘I’m A Cuckoo’ – a remix which arguably bests the original – and remixes from Miaoux Miaoux and Richard X.
