Yvonne Elliman出生於夏威夷的首都檀香山市，擁有愛爾蘭、日本和華人血統，從小喜愛歌唱的她於1969年遷往倫敦，在Chelsea當地的俱樂部演出。幸運的她旋即被韋伯和萊斯發掘，受邀參與《Jesus Christ Superstar》概念專輯的灌錄。
頗具東方味的Yvonne Elliman稱不上漂亮，灌錄《Jesus Christ Superstar》專輯時也才17歲，但卻能以成熟世故的沙啞唱腔將"Everything's Alright"和"I Don't Know How to Love Him"唱得韻味十足，令人印象深刻，後者更成為七~年代初期的抒情名曲，至今依然膾炙人口。
Yvonne Elliman曾為搖滾歌手Eric Clapton擔任合音長達5年之久，合作出 "I Shot the Sheriff"（雷鬼樂手Bob Marley的作品）這類出色的知名歌曲。之後，她遇到Bee Gees合唱團的Barry Gibb和Robin Gibb兄弟，他們幫她寫了多首暢銷情歌，除了"Love Me"之外，還有1977年《週末夜狂熱(Saturday Night Fever)》電影原聲帶裡的冠軍單曲"If I Can't Have You"。
