Blue (stylised as BLUE) is the third studio album by Swedish audiovisual project iamamiwhoami, led by singer-songwriter Jonna Lee. It was released on 7 November 2014. The album was announced through a trailer on YouTube on 8 July 2014, and on the same day, it was made available for pre-order on Lee's label To whom it may concern. Blue is musically produced by Claes Björklund and visually directed by Swedish collective WAVE (Lee, John Strandh and Agustin Moreaux), with costume design by Mathieu Mirano.
Though Blue was offered in CD and vinyl formats exclusively from To whom it may concern., the album was fully designed with a more immersive online experience in mind. iamamiwhoami created Blue island, an online experience that provides an exclusive 'expanded album' with additional audio, video and still images, as well as a myriad of download and streaming options, with ways to share the album with others. The CD and LP also include some of the additional segues from the Blue island version, and all songs appear as a continuous mix. The digital edition provided through iTunes is unmixed.
Ten months ago, a video appeared on YouTube which marked a new era for iamamiwhoami. 'Fountain' was the beginning of something that seemed to be beyond description. Now, after the appearance of six more videos, an album has been released from the Swedish audiovisual maestra, iamamiwhoami.
Following on from the successes of Bounty and Kin, Jonna Lee's act has delivered Blue, a conceptual album that takes listeners away from the familiarity of the lush woodland landscapes of previous albums, and leads them instead to tranquil shores. In the same vein as previous releases, Blue has so far delivered the majority of tracks before the album's release, all with accompanying videos to create an audiovisual masterpiece. As of last month, seven videos had been released out of the ten tracks when 'Chasing Kites' was uploaded to the internet.
When it all began with 'Fountain', fans were abuzz with excitement and speculation soon started over what was happening. The general consensus was that there was a new album coming, but when, and how often would the videos be released prior to the overall collection? A new page was added to the band's website, generate, which asked for donations towards the project to help them fund their creativity. Thankfully, followers of the multimedia performer donated generously, and ten months later, we have Blue.
