90年代初，the sundays以一种独立摇滚姿态出现在英格兰本土和美国，
乐队的风格建立在the smiths乐队式的吉他流行乐和cocteau twins类
似迷幻舞曲的梦幻流行乐基础上。尽管乐队的前两张专辑销量很好，但是
却不像许多评论家预测的，认为他们会进入主流市场，实际上乐队并未逾
越而进入主流队伍。




1987年的夏天，the sundays成立于伦敦。最初，乐队包括主音harriet
wheeler和吉他手david gavurin。之前，harreit wheeler曾经在一个叫
jim jiminee的乐队里当过歌手。在乐队完成了几首歌后，贝斯手paul brin
dley和鼓手patrick hannan加入。1988年8月，乐队在伦敦camden的fal
coln“vertigo club”（某个俱乐部）举办了他们的首场表演。这场首演赢
得了圈内的很好的口碑，并且乐队也成为诸多唱片公司争抢的目标。在这年底
乐队终于和rough trade签约，并且在一年内，他们还将和dgc唱片公司签一
个合约，以负责他们在美国方面的市场。

《blind》发片后，the sundays沉寂了好几年。唯一的一次露面是在
1994美国电视直销上，作为滚石杂志的“野马”封面。The sundays再
次发行专辑时，那已经是5年后的事了。wheeler和gavurin结婚了，生了
个女儿叫billie，在此期间过着普通人的生活。这些足以解释他们暂别歌坛
的原因，但是等待是值得的，the sundays凭借第三张专辑《Static & Sil
ence》再次获得了主流的认同和成功，并诞生了流行单曲“summertime”。
