Suede's third album, and their first without main songwriter Bernard Butler, lacked none of their trademark glam rock and catchy melodies.Boostedby Richard Oakes' inventive guitarwork and the arrival of Neil Codling on keyboards, they presented a sparsely producedcollection of Bowie-tinged pop songs. Brett Anderson's favourite lyrical themes--bored youth, casual sex, seedy urban life ("peepshows and freakshows") and escape from it--enjoyedfree rein, but were predominantly framed within raunchy rockers rather than gloomy ballads. With the likes of "Trash", "Filmstar" and "She", Suede firmly established themselves asthe godfathers of indie glam and offered some classic pop into the bargain. Most of the attention paid to Suede concentrates on the first two albums, dismissing the rest of their work as substandard. Coming Up is, by today's standards, an absolutely fantastic album. If any band around at the moment could come up with anything nearly as good as this I'd be surprised. Suede need to be seriously re-evaluated as they never seemed to receive the accolades they deserved. Not only that, the music stills sounds amazing today. Bowie can only wish he could ever have been this good!  

  Suede 来自英国伦敦，由主唱Brett Anderson（布雷特·安德森）、吉他手Richard Oakes（理查德·戴克斯)、贝斯手Mat Osman（迈特·奥斯曼）、鼓手Simon Gilbert（西蒙·吉尔波特）及键盘乐器手Alex Lee（阿莱克斯·李）所组成。当然，这并非创团之初的成员，这支成立至今已有10多年历史的乐队除了Brett Anderson，其他成员都在十多年的时间里一换再换，而在这个过程中，Suede也从刚成立时倍受怀疑发展至现在成为大不列颠最受欢迎的乐队。
成立之初的 Suede 和今日的威名真不可同日而语，当时的报章杂志、同乡同胞、经纪人及唱片公司都对他们没什么好印象。但是自从1992年起，全球流行乐界掀起了另一股风潮 (此时第二吉他手Justin已离团）。Suede 的现场表演忽然引起广泛的回响，就在他们于 Nude 唱片公司的首支单曲“The Drowners”发行的前一个月，他们登上了“Melody Maker”杂志的封面。纵然这样子的情势逆转充满了神奇色彩，Suede 瞬间成为家喻户晓的乐团却是不争的事实。主唱Brett身上那种病态的美和他卓越精致的创作功力和唱功，迅速让 Suede 成为焦点，支持 Suede 的乐迷不断地增加。当他们回到家乡伦敦再次举办演唱会的时候，Brett 的衬衫被极度疯狂的歌迷撕裂三次。这般受欢迎的场面和昔日比较起来，确实有天壤之别。
Suede 自成立至今共发行了5张专辑，其首张同名专辑《Suede》于1993年三月发行以来，无论是在法国还是遥远的好莱坞，这张专辑的销售速度都令人吃惊。而他们第二张专辑《Dog man star》被评为十年来最优的专辑之一，整张专辑变化丰富，充满刺激。其后的《Coming up》及《Head music》也都在乐坛留下影响。在蛰伏后的2002年Suede发行了他们的最新双张专辑《A New Morning》，音乐也显得更加稳重和华美。但是在新的专辑中，似乎Suede已经失去了当年忧伤和迷离的色彩。
Suede 的音乐以大胆、神秘、诡谲、性感、热闹、狂妄、流行著称，他们的音乐是具有魅惑性的，让你在听到他们第一个节奏的时候无法自拔的爱上他，尤其是他们的现场。Suede并非其他乐队演出那样造作，他们的每场表演都是真的现场演出，这更能显示出Suede的诡异的风格。他们的巡演走遍了欧洲及日本等地，并且在在欧洲、美国、日本以及在本过英国境内达到一连串演出中，门票皆被销售一空，前来观看的观众无一不带着兴奋和激情，他们对 Suede 的疯狂程度是英国其他同类型乐队少能比及。
