合作了四十年之三重唱 - 「彼得，保羅與瑪莉」

1961年成立於紐約的民謠三重唱彼得、保羅與瑪麗由Peter Yarrow、Paul Stookey、Mary Travers所組成，在六~年代擁有多首暢銷曲；吉他伴奏清新的曲風加上優美的和聲使他們在台灣也有極高知名度。六~年代初期除新興不久的搖滾樂之外流行歌壇吹起一股民謠復興運動風，試圖重振Pete Seeger、The Weavers、Kingston Trio民謠黃金時期，尤其此時英國的披頭旋風尚未颳到大西洋西岸，在貓王的搖滾樂與披頭四夾縫中，民謠的確又流行一段時間，瓊．拜耶、鮑布．狄倫和彼得、保羅與瑪麗都在這波浪潮中佔有重要地位，當然六~年代中期狄倫將民謠插電後又把民謠帶出另一番景象。
從台灣以前的老式情歌選輯中就常可看到彼得、保羅與瑪麗的許多歌曲 "檸檬樹" 、 "波夫巨龍" 、 "離家500哩" 都是其中大家最耳熟能詳的歌曲。最新出版的「The Very Best Of Peter, Paul & Mary」精選輯共有25曲，除上述歌曲外 "If I Had A Hammer"、 "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" 、 "This Land Is Your Land" 、 "Early Mornin' Rain" 、 "I Dig Rock And Roll Music" 都是彼得、保羅與瑪麗三重唱不可或缺的名作。除了Pete Seeger的歌外他們也唱了兩首鮑布．狄倫的作品 "Blowin' In The Wind" 、 "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" ；而在他們所有單曲中僅有一首冠軍曲，那就是約翰‧丹佛所寫的 "Leaving On A Jet Plane" ，這支單曲在1969年12月20日得到冠軍後彼得、保羅與瑪麗三重唱就無單曲再進榜，並且在1971年解散。解散後的三位團員各自發展不過成就都比不上三重唱時代，這張精選中還收錄每人一首單飛之後的作品。

1962年包含 "離家500哩" 、 "檸檬樹" 、 "If I Had A Hammer" 、 "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" 的彼得、保羅與瑪麗首張同名專輯曾被評選為發燒片，純淨的歌聲與和聲的層次感加上簡單的木吉他伴奏曾讓發燒友們趨之若鶩，多年之後從「The Very Best Of Peter, Paul & Mary」可以再度回味那時代單純卻淨化心靈的民謠。(華納音樂)
