专辑精选收集来自当代艺术家的兰草音乐，各种兰草风格音乐汇集到一张专辑中真还难得一见。这20首音乐真正的代表了兰草音乐的最高境界。向往、和蔼可亲、温厚是专辑最显著地特点。
蓝草作为个音乐流派出现于20世纪40年代中期。由于战争期间的配给制度，使得唱片的发行受到了极大限制；这也是蓝草音乐为何兴起于二战之后，而不是更早时期的最好说法。
对于任何音乐流派来说，都无人自称是该流派的创造人；然而，融合了古时音乐、蓝调音乐和爵士乐的蓝草音乐的出现，却可以追溯到于1939年组建的一支乐队Blue Grass Boys。如今该乐队成员Bill Monroe被誉为蓝草音乐之父，而蓝草音乐也得名于该乐队的名字。1945年，班卓琴（banjo）手Earl Scruggs的加入成为蓝草音乐发展史上的一个关键期。1945～1948年，Monroe乐队中的灵魂人物为：班卓琴手Earl Scruggs、主唱兼吉他手Lester Flatt、小提琴手Chubby Wise、贝斯手 Howard Watts 和aka手Cedric Rainwater，他们创造了直到今天仍被奉为典范的经典乐声和乐器组合。
