尤其是作为Track 1的《Magic》,弦乐与击掌式节拍,一句句“Do You Believe In Magic?”
《Where Does The DJ Go?》和《Unstoppable》有《Your Disco Needs You》和《Kids》的气质。
From the moment Kylie announced her new album would be called "Disco," I think all of us fans got very excited. Whatever else she's done in the world of pop music, including the change-up of incorporating more country music aspects on Golden, Kylie's got a special knack for disco. This isn't a retreat into familiar territory, though; this is an artist embracing her particular strength and pushing it to its limits. It's fantastic.
And let's not mince words. It's an instant classic. No doubt about it. It holds up against earlier masterpieces like Light Years and Fever. This is no surprise, especially since the three singles released before the album came out were all outstanding, none more so than Say Something. That song is truly another high water mark for Kylie, and it will deservedly be on all future hits collections.
It doesn't stop with those three singles (Say Something, Magic, and I Love It). I'm particularly enamored with Real Groove and Dance Floor Darling. These songs show the perfect mix of classic disco sound and modern pop production. Heavily influenced by people like Donna Summer and Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album, these songs have amazing rhythms and tones, but they don't at all feel stuck in the past, and they don't feel like copies of past hits. They are fresh, new, and bursting with energy. It is pretty much impossible to keep your foot from tapping as they play.
Even the use of autotune on Disco is worked in well and doesn't sound like the overused and totally played-out sounds of so much modern generic pop music. Instead, it's strategically deplayed, adding unexpected twists and turns and variety.
Lyrically, Kylie knows what she's doing. The heart of dance music, and disco specifically, is to emphasize and celebrate love, sex, and dancing. Kylie brings it all forth in her singing as well as the lyrics, which cover the emotional and physical aspects that work with the sounds so well. During the coronavirus pandemic, while people can't go to the clubs and discos, Kylie brings the disco to us. During a time of division and crisis, Kylie brings positivity and joy through this music. It's escapism of the highest order, and it's music that is so masterfully constructed that one might not even notice just how sharp the craft is.
I have written many reviews of Kylie Minogue albums (including her live albums, and I sure am excited to see what happens with the Infinite Disco performances), and I always try to note how underrated she is as a singer/songwriter. I have a feeling that reviewers are going to take notice of what we fans can already see and hear clearly: Kylie Minnogue is a legend because of her concerts and because of albums like this. I'm talking about the 16-song deluxe edition here. Not a bad song in the bunch, and no sign of slowing down. Pop perfection.(amazon)
