简介:
This upcoming EP titled “Oh No, Not Again” from Alexander 23 chronicles both the highs and lows of relationships. Set to release on Feb. 19, the EP aims to reflect the tough subject of love and heartbreak, presenting them in a manner that is easy to digest.
Similarly to the rest of the world, Alexander 23 was stuck inside during quarantine, finding it difficult to stay creative.
“Usually I write alone in my house,” said the 26-year-old artist, “However, once this became the only way of doing so, it got immensely harder for me.”
On top of this, Alexander 23 missed out on touring, which has become a very influential part of his writing process.
Despite this loss in experiences, Alexander 23 came to realize the role that quarantine played in his life. While reflecting on the past, the artist explained that the extensive amount of free time allowed him to experiment and develop his new sound.
“I’m thankful for that time because I now have songs that I would have never written before, [quarantine] forced me to confront things from years ago out of necessity,” said Alexander 23.
With this newest EP, Alexander 23 hopes to communicate to fans that they are not alone.
“For me, I realized that the more I relaxed and suppressed my ego, the more I realized that I’m not special, and the emotions I experience are not specific to me,” he said. “I want people to be able to listen and hear another human being going through similar things.”
Following the success of his recent single “Cry Over Boys,” Alexander 23 was able to communicate his message through the social media video platform TikTok. With over six thousand videos using his song, fans were able to interpret the lyrics as they applied to their own lives. Furthermore, the song has an impressive 1.9 million streams on Spotify, despite being released this year.
When asked to limit himself to three words, Alexander 23 described the EP as “Sad, but hopeful.” However, he wants his fans to “drive it around for a while.”
When listening to the EP, the artist hopes that the lyrics will “serve you in the ways it served me,” as it was made quite obvious that a lot of personal emotion was poured into this newest collection of music. Alexander 23 strives to connect with his fans by using his lyrics to summarize shared experiences and relatable emotions concerning love.
Why provide such a sad perspective? The artist believes that he must work through these emotions and do something productive with them. For example, in his single "IDK You Yet,” which has been certified "Gold" by the RIAA and has already amassed 300 million streams globally, Alexander 23 is able to recognize his pain, while still capable of acknowledging its temporary nature.
“Oh No, Not Again!” is the perfect EP for those who want to feel understood. The songs encapsulate the hardships of relationships, through a more realistic approach to love.
With Alexander 23’s carefully crafted lyrics, he hopes to bring light to even your lowest moments. Through this optimistic lens, the EP should paint a clear message of hope and personal growth. With a release date neighboring Valentine’s Day, Alexander 23’s new music is sure to reflect all your emotions, whether joyous or somber.
